Welcome to Antarctica, Christchurch!
With mysterious deep seas, unique creatures and endless icy plains, Antarctica is a land like no other. A fragile place that has drawn the bravest explorers from far and wide, leaving all who visit with a passion to protect this stunning rarity.
The International Antarctic Centre transports a slice of this astounding continent to Christchurch, with a range of immersive experiences that allow everyday visitors to see, touch, feel and fall in love with Antarctica.
Brave an Antarctic storm, go off-road in a Hagglund, mingle with the penguins, experience Antarctica from all four dimensions and leave with a head full of knowledge, a heart full of love and inspiration to take action, just like the explorers before you.

A great 2-3 hr (at your own pace) tour around this interactive exhibit ranging from transport/ politics/ ecology/ geology/ environmental science! Very informative and helpful team supporting guests also.
First of all: the staff members are fantastic and know what they are talking about! The Antarctic weather simulator was a "cool" experience.😉 Was there in time for the penguin feeding which was cute and the girls there gave so many interesting information! Took a ride on the Hägglund which was great fun, too. Plus, got to meet the Huskies at the Husky encounter. They were super relaxed and adorable! Thanks to everyone there for this great experience! Can highly recommend!
We really enjoyed our visit to the International Antarctic Centre, from experiencing the cold and wind in the Storm Room, meeting the huskies and gaining a new appreciation for their important role in Antarctic exploration, watching the cute penguins, taking a trip on a Hägglund, and finishing with a very cool 4D theatre experience, it was an interesting and fun way to spend a few hours. The staff were really friendly and helpful too, which always adds to the experience.
This was a great experience and well set out for all ages.
