A wonderful trip but we thought it would be four hours, as advised on website, not three hours. Another hour would gave been great. Not quite long enough to fully appreciate the beauty of the place. A bit rushed. Four hours would give almost three hours on the island, rather than only two hours. Half of this two hours is spent walking up and down to the lake on top of the island. Needed more time for a proper swim in the lake ! Nevertheless, a magical trip with a very friendly host driver on a modern fast boat.
The cruise was very good, smooth and fast sailing due to no wind and no waves on the lake. A very good guide and captain of the boat, Toby. The island is picturesque and with a rich variety of flora and native birds who live and thrive due to the continued efforts of DOC. On the overall, a very nice experience.
The boat ride was lovely, the guide was very friendly, the walk on the island is gorgeous with spectacular views!! A major highlight of my time in Wanaka!
This was a new experience for us on Lake Wanaka. The boat journey was beautiful and such awesome scenery and commentary along the way. What a beautiful island! The bush was beautiful, the scenery from many points up the hill was exceptional and the view from the top amazing. A lake on an island on a lake on an island in the sea! We chose unguided island tour, however the guide was very helpful in answers the questions we had when turning to boat.

Beautiful & tranquil
This is a gorgeous combination of a lake cruise & a leisurely trek on a unique island, full of wildlife & interesting plants with views to match. The boat skipper was very knowledgeable about the area & shared that with the travellers. The climb to the top of the island may not be suitable for all people, but everybody on our trip succeeded, including me at 70 - you just need to take it at your own pace as plenty of time is allowed. The other item I would recommend (that I forgot to take) is to take a swimming costume with you (if you like swimming) as you are allowed to swim in the tiny lake at the top of the island. Someone did that when we were there & all I could do was look on, jealously!
